Several high-profile crypto criminals are spending their first New Year's in prison. Here are a few notable ones:
1.Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF): The former CEO of FTX is serving a 25-year prison sentence for fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering. He's currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.
2.Caroline Ellison: Alameda Research's ex-CEO and SBF's former girlfriend, Ellison was sentenced to two years in prison for fraud charges related to the collapse of FTX. She's currently at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut.
3.Ryan Salame: The former co-CEO of FTX Digital Markets pleaded guilty to fraud charges and was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. He's currently at the Federal Correctional Institution in Cumberland.
4.Alexey Pertsev: A co-founder of Tornado Cash, Pertsev was found guilty of money laundering and sentenced to over five years in prison. He's currently appealing the conviction and sentence.
5.David Carmona: The founder of the crypto Ponzi scheme IcomTech, Carmona received a 10-year prison sentence. He's currently at the Federal Correctional Institution in Ashland, Kentucky.
