OTTAWA, ON, Feb. 11, 2026 /CNW/ - Please note that in light of the tragic events in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, the Governor General’s schedule has been suspended.

The Inuit Nunangat University event will no longer take place at Rideau Hall.

Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, will deliver remarks at an Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami event, during which the location of the main campus of Inuit Nunangat University will be formally announced.

About the Inuit Nunangat University

Inuit Nunangat University is an Inuit-led initiative to establish the first university in Canada that is created, governed and operated by Inuit. The University will advance Inuit self-determination in education, strengthen Inuktut, and support Inuit knowledge systems at the highest levels of study and research.

Notes for Media:

There will be media coverage inside the Reception Room and coverage outside the residence.

**Inside the residence: **Due to space constraints, a limited number of media will be permitted in the Reception Room.

**Outside the residence: **Open to media. Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami will hold a media availability on the public grounds of Rideau Hall after the event.

Members of the media must confirm their attendance with the Rideau Hall Press Office at media@gg.ca and with Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami at media@itk.ca by **February 10, 2026 at 10 a.m. ET**

Media must arrive at the Princess Anne Entrance no later than 1:00 p.m.
