The company stated that Opus 4.1 has stronger capabilities in programming, research, and data analysis, and performs better in handling complex multi-step problems, making it more competent for intelligent agent tasks. This update marks a shift in the company’s strategy, focusing on gradual improvements in coding models while launching major version models. Anthropic’s Chief Product Officer Mike Krieger stated: “In the past, we were too focused on releasing significant upgrade versions. Now we focus more on continuously improving the model in all aspects—whether it’s programming, reasoning, or autonomous task execution.”
