Indian police have arrested a group of cybercriminals in Bengaluru accused of impersonating Microsoft support to defraud American citizens. The group is said to have posed as Microsoft technicians, using fake FTC alerts and extorting victims. Authorities have temporarily detained 21 people after raiding the Musk Communications office in Whitefield, seizing multiple laptops, phones, and hard drives.
Initial investigation shows that the group has embezzled millions of USD through online advertisements targeting users in America. The ads cause computer freezes and display fake Microsoft support phone numbers. When victims call, the scammers claim that data has been hacked and demand payment to “fix” it. Police are continuing the financial investigation and urging the public to be vigilant and report suspicious behavior.
